West Highland Way Introduction

Loch Lomond Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond

After completing the Hadrian's Wall tour from Carlisle to Newcastle upon Tyne we trained back to Glasgow, the southern end of the West Highland Way. Hillwalk Tours had arranged for us to skip the first two segments of the WHW, from Milngavie to Drymen and on to Rowardennan, which are mostly urban and road-based. We took a train and bus to Drymen, a small but pretty town with one old hotel and a historic pub where we ate well before heading into the countryside the next day. For the next six days we made steady progress into the Scottish Highlands towards Fort William and Ben Nevis.
