Since we took a taxi back to Tyndrum to start our walk, it was our shortest day on the West Highland Way at only 8 miles.
Following 18th century military roads, we crossed above the railway line between Glasgow and Fort William that leads on to Mallaig and the ferry to Skye; it is reputed to provide one of the most scenic journeys in Britain.

The Bridge at Orchy was built in 1751 as part of the military roadways constructed to help pacify the local Scots. The hotel nearby where we spent the night has been expanded with nicely constructed outbuildings.
